Places and Other Things
I entered a Plein Air festival in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic and the rest is history. The scenes I painted in that festival were peculiarly influenced by the pandemic. The already quirky restaurant had expanded into the parking lot in true COVID fashion, for example. But I've kept at it, challenging myself to improve and try new techniques, styles and scenes, and work on my night paintings.
But this gallery also just documents the crazy things in life. Like the painting of my neighbor. He could be seen keeping the wheels of the Biden campaign going in his front room by my parking spot in jeans and a tee at all hours of day and night.
I now bave a relatively compact (but kind of heavy) painting kit that I take everywhere and try to capture anything I see that pulls me in. It fits on my boat and in my car trunk and I can carry it on my back. It's a great way to be a part of any community I'm visiting, and the interactions I've had are as valuable as my paintings.
